As 2015 is coming to a close, I remember all of the excitement of being nominated and then winning the Best Blog of 2015 in the Craftsy Instructor category. Of course, I still have not finished moving all of my blog posts over to their new home. It will continue to be a work in progress!
This 31 Day Blog Challenge has helped me figure out a few things – I will even share a couple with you! First, I really do enjoy writing but on the flip side – boy does writing take up a huge amount of my time! I get lost in the story and side tracked so easily. Don’t laugh, but I start writing a “short” blog post at lunch time and like magic its time to make dinner and I have a whole 10 page story written! I bet there is some sort of “time warp” thing going on…..
The next thing I’ve learned about my writing, is that I blog as if I’m in a conversation or in front of a class (captive audience since I’m the only one talking). So you would think that 10 page story would be simple to edit or maybe even split up into multiple posts. Yeah, wouldn’t that be nice! Not happening. I’ve actually saved that dozen or so of super long posts because they could come in handy one day – maybe I’ll compile them into a book. “Lisa’s Ramblings on Machine Embroidery and Life Experiences” Yeah – not gonna be a best seller LOL but could be a fun read over wine one day.
But probably the most important thing I’ve learned from this experience – is that while daily blogging is not something that I can keep up with at this time, I can budget time to blog on a regular basis.
So here are my 2016 goals for my blog (and yes this is in addition to the quarterly newsletter!):
- I will blog at least 2x per week
- I will link these blog posts with my Facebook and other social media pages
- I will continue moving my old blog posts to the new website so that everything can be searchable in one location
I can do this. I want to do this. It will be fun! Thanks for following me into 2016!
